The IOCC Metropolitan Committee of Northern California was established 33 years ago through the vision and generosity of dedicated Orthodox Christian leaders and donors who sought to strengthen support for the humanitarian mission of International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) in Northern California. From its earliest days, the committee served as a model of pan-Orthodox collaboration, bringing together faithful across jurisdictions and cultural traditions in a united effort to serve those in need.
Under the steady leadership of Steve Kreta, who chaired the committee from its inception, the group launched what would become its signature tradition—the annual fall “Remembering Home” Dinner. This beloved event not only raised critical funds to support IOCC’s global relief and development work, but also fostered fellowship and a deep sense of community among Orthodox Christians in the Bay Area. It served as an opportunity to come together in fellowship, and celebrate both the commonalities and uniqueness of our diverse cultural and ethnic heritages through food, performance and community.
Over the decades, the Metropolitan Committee (now known as the IOCC SF Bay Area Committee) has continued to serve as a steady support and anchor for IOCC’s fundraising efforts in Northern California. It has evolved into an enduring presence, continuing to host fundraisers, food and wine tours, and special events that blend generosity with celebration. Thanks to the commitment of its founders, major donors, and countless volunteers, the San Francisco IOCC Metropolitan Committee remains a strong witness to the power of service, faith, and unity in action.
